TRANSITION GUIDE TRAINING FOR EDUCATORS
ONLINE COURSE SYLLABUS

Course Description

This program is designed to train end of life/healthcare educators to develop their own course to teach other professionals and paraprofessionals to be Transition Guides for the dying. Educators will learn techniques to teach their Transition Guide students how to help dying people reconcile their lives (forgiveness and gratitude, personal growth, life review), reach acceptance of their deaths (grief work), practice dying until death comes; and how to assist them during their transition by reading their personal Guidebook to Conscious Dying into the Clear Light. They will also learn how to write guided imagery scripts and how to help clients/patients write their own personal Guidebook.

Qualifications

This course to meant to train educators who will teach the concept to others so it’s important that you already be in a teaching position. You could be:

• A heath care educator in a nurses training program, a hospital, a local hospice, a community college, a civic organization, a government agency, the Red Cross, training students, staff members and volunteers
• An alternative healthcare practitioner (reiki, massage, light/energy healing, hypnotherapy, yoga, acupuncture) who works with terminally ill clients
• A minister, chaplain, spiritual educator who offers caregiver classes
• A speaker or workshop leader who offers related programs (seniors, caregiving, end-of-life issues)
• A Thanatologist who teaches courses in death and dying or works in hospitals or with hospice
• A Music Thanatologist who wants to know more about the dying process for her music vigils
• A CEU course educator for nurses, caregivers, physicians, funeral directors, EMTs, police, fire, emergency and disaster workers
• A nursing home or long term care facility trainer teaching staff, aides, families and patients

Prior experience with meditation, hypnotherapy, guided visualization, reiki, light/energy healing or the like will be beneficial to both trainers and Transition Guides who want to learn these techniques. If you haven’t experienced these, do so before you take this training or during the training so you have your own personal experience of it.

Course Requirements to receive Certificate of  Completion
Time commitment - 8 hours per week for 6 weeks

• Complete weekly assignments by the Conference Room meeting date each week (read chapters in course manual, write a paper, practice assigned exercises) – approximately 3 hours
• Participate in the Conference Room meetings on Saturdays for 1 hour minimum
• Spend at least 1 hour reading and posting in the Conference Room during the week participating in discussions and initiating your own threads
• Read two books (over 6 weeks) from two different categories on the Recommended Reading List and write a report on each – approximately 3 hours

Methodology

• Students are expected to set aside time to actively participate and complete their assignments on time for the benefit of the other students and the dynamics of the class.
• Students will be expected to participate in Conference Room discussions about the information and exercises presented in the manual and how it can be developed into a course in their work environment.
• Students will be expected to turn in original thought papers, not text copied from the assigned material. Papers should be from the heart, not the head.

Evaluation

There is no test. There are no grades. It isn’t even pass or fail. You either get it or you don’t in the end, and I’ll know whether you do or not by your participation in the discussions, the papers you turn in and the final exercise. I won’t issue a Certificate of Completion to anyone who doesn’t successfully complete the course, but I will give people with a good reason for having to drop out a chance to retake the entire course at another session.
