NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES REVEAL THE SECRET TO PEACEFUL DYING

Transition Guides: Teachers of The Guidebook to Conscious Dying into the Clear Light

By Diane Goble, MSCC, CCHt, NDEr

Mammoth Lakes, CA - March 14, 2008 – What would you do if you suddenly found yourself outside your body looking down at your body? You’re walking down the street one day, minding your own business, thinking about what you need to get at the grocery store for dinner tonight, and then—BLAM! Suddenly people are walking right through you as if you weren’t there. You turn around to see others running toward a bus stopped in the crosswalk. You rise up over the crowd, look down, and watch as they pull a body out from under the bus. It looks vaguely familiar… then you realize, it’s your body. But you’re not dead. You feel just fine. You’re still alive, aware, conscious of everything going on around you. You’re just no longer in your body. Now what?

A similar scenario is often described by near death experiencers (NDE). They are confused, disoriented and frightened because they don’t realize what just happened and they don’t know what to do next. They may find themselves experiencing their life review, passing through a tunnel toward a brilliant white light, being surrounded with unconditional love, seeing heavenly visions of the afterlife or even having a frightening encounter before they are sent back to their bodies. They may awaken, still confused about what just happened and barely able to find words to describe it, but the one message they all clearly bring back is that the death of the body is the beginning of an awesome journey in full consciousness and wholeness back to our spiritual existence.

Diane Goble is one of those near death experiencers. She drowned during a white water river rafting accident, had a core NDE, and came back with a mission to help others overcome fear of death. She went on to earn a master’s degree in psychology, later another in hypnotherapy, then became an ordained spiritual minister. Her work in psycho-spiritual counseling and hospice over the 36 years since her NDE has evolved into a method to teach others the art of conscious dying into the Light to prepare them for a peaceful transition back to their spiritual home. She calls these teachers Transition Guides. They may be nurses, hospice workers, alternative health practitioners, home health or nursing home aides, emergency workers, or family caregivers. Many of them are NDErs, who are able to walk this familiar path with a departing soul.

“For those with a terminal illness, especially for those who have moved onto hospice care,” says Ms. Goble, “learning the art of conscious dying into the Light should be part of one’s overall plan for dying, but everyone needs to have this information because we never know when we might step out in front of that bus. If you suddenly find yourself outside your physical body one day, and one day you will, if you have practiced this method, you will quickly realize what happened, what choices you have, and what to do next.”

Ms. Goble’s method includes a simple relaxation/meditation exercise that with practice becomes second nature and guided imagery exercises designed to teach a person to do a life review, including gratitude and forgiveness work to heal old wounds and bring families back together. She also teaches how to write a personal Guidebook to practice the art of conscious dying into the Light and for the Transition Guide to read at the time or immediately following a person’s death. The text is non-denominational but can be adapted to any belief system. “Even atheists will come to appreciate having read it after they find them selves out of their bodies,” says Ms. Goble.

The web site describing the program is www.transitionguidetraining.org. There is a certified training program for professional and paraprofessional educator’s who want to teach this method as part of their end of life care curriculum. Registration for the June 7th class ends May 8th. The book, Transition Guides: Teachers of The Guidebook to Conscious Dying into the Clear Light by Diane Goble, which describes the techniques anyone can learn for themselves or others, is available in the eStore. Ms. Goble recommends that family members or small groups of friends/neighbors form a study group to learn and practice the techniques so that no one will die alone or afraid. Also in the eStore are tools Ms. Goble has come across that will be helpful to Transition Guides, such as Gratitude/Forgiveness Journals, Healing Silks and Soul Baskets. There is a Recommended Reading list and links for those who wish to know more about death and dying, and links to Caregiver Resources.

A PDF file of Transition Guides: Teachers of The Guidebook to Conscious Dying into the Clear Light is available for reviewers upon request.
